Thankful for Opportunities

Not all situations feel like rich learning opportunities when they happen. Some are messy and challenging and even unkind in the moment.  Even in the messiest of times, it’s important to be thankful for our opportunities… the good and the bad. I feel this way when it comes to finances. I know what I need to do with my extra income, but sometimes it’s not exactly what I want to do. Especially during the holiday gift-giving season. I am so very thankful for the opportunities that my credit union has given me to make my life a little easier.

Holiday Club: When it’s time to start shopping for the holidays to get everyone on my list the perfect gift, I am thankful for the opportunity to have a Holiday Club account. My husband and I know that it’s easier to put a little bit of money away every month for the holidays instead of racking up our credit cards or trying to scrape up the money at the last minute. We have our Holiday Club account set up to automatically contribute $20 from each paycheck directly to our Holiday Club account. By November we’ve saved $800 for gifts without even thinking about it! I sure am thankful for that!

High Yield Online Savings: 1st Financial’s High Yield Online Savings Account has offered financial peace of mind for my husband and I. We use this account as a backup emergency savings account and it has already saved us a couple times, including the time we needed to have a new blower put into my husband’s truck AND needed some extra cash for a house repair. {Insert sinking gut feeling here.} Thankfully we had the money in our High Yield Online Savings account to get everything fixed without having to suffer a big hit financially. Now that’s something to be thankful for!

Auto Loan: Our 2018 financial goal was to find opportunities to save in what we already had. We wanted to look at our current loans to see if refinancing our home loan, student loans, or auto loans would save us some money. After doing some research we found an opportunity to refinance my auto loan saving us $18.63 a month. We turned around and used the money we saved on my loan and deposited the savings into our High Yield Online Savings account. We are now saving more without taking any additional money from our paychecks. Talk about a thankful opportunity right there!

No matter what situation you are going through, take a minute and reflect on the opportunities you have been given. You might even end up like us and find yourself saving some extra money. Remember, there is always something to be thankful for.

Thankful and grateful,
Chelsea Springli
